Our program has a strong emphasis on simulation base training. We offer a 3 day boot camp every July for incoming and current fellows and faculty alike focusing on procedural skills, clinical cases and introduction to ECMO. We also conduct a monthly simulation lab that the fellows are required to attend.
Bi-Weekly lectures centered on a specific topic in Pediatric Critical Care Ultrasound. Specific lectures are followed by a hands-on, instructor-guided demonstration. Lectures are designed with a clinical application in mind to prepare learners for a hands-on setting.
There are also 2 1/2 day workshops available. Each workshop has multiple machines and multiple instructors for a low learner-to-instructor ratio.
Division Lecture Curriculum
The lecture curriculum is broken down during the week with conferences every Tuesday and Thursday. The conferences include educational lectures with speakers from inside the division and invited speakers from outside, patient care review, journal club, morbidity and mortality, board review and a monthly joint case review with pediatric emergency medicine. There is also a quarterly joint case conference with pediatric surgery.
We offer several elective rotations during fellowship. Fellows can opt to do a rotations in the SICU (Trauma), NeuroICU or an outside CICU rotation in Orlando, FL at Arnold Palmer Children’s Hospital. Fellows also have an opportunity to attend a 3 day ECMO course during their fellowship.
